I enjoy being a staff writer for 3BL Media/Justmeans on topics - Social Innovation, Social Enterprise and Social Entrepreneurs. When I am not writing for 3BL Media/Justmeans, I wear my other hat as owner of Serendipity PR. Over the years I have worked with high-profile, big, powerful brands and organisations within the public, not-for-profit and corporate sectors; and won awards from my industry. I believe in the power of serendipity for business and superheroes. I also am a Twitter lover and believe that social media is a digital constellation:connecting people in an easily explored galaxy. I would also describe myself as a Spiritual Entrepreneur, Conscious Explorer and Futurist. I enjoy helping others, paying it forward and being a mum.

(3BL Media/Justmeans) - When we think of children within our society we associate them at school learning, laughing and hanging out with their friends. Yet according to the United Nations, the number of child soldiers in the Central African Republic has more than doubled to as many as 6,000 in recent months as self-defence militia have sprung up to counter waves of attacks by former rebels. Now world powers, led by France, are rushing to contain a crisis that Paris and U.N. officials have warned could lead to genocide in...

(3BL Media/Justmeans) - Lack of access to information and technology has a big impact on people's ability to prepare for, survive and recover from disasters, according to the 2013 World Disasters Report, published by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC). The world has just recently witnessed this issue in action in the aftermath of typhoon Haiyan. This year's Disasters report focuses on the role of technology, its potential and its limitations.

The report highlights that during the first critical hours after an emergency, most lives saved are...

(3BL Media/Justmeans) - This November has been the month where organisations have made dreams come true for children. One of the best stories by far this year has been about the ‘Batkid’ when San Francisco rallied for 'Batkid' Miles Scott, a leukaemia survivor who is now in remission.  Scott was able to pretend that he was Batman for the day, thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Miles, who is five years old, participated in events across the city including fighting mock crimes and receiving an honour from the mayor.

Make-A-Wish Foundation received pledges from more than 10,000 people to lend a hand....

(3BL Media/Justmeans) - Sir Paul McCartney has appealed to Vladimir Putin to free 30 Greenpeace protesters who have been imprisoned in Russia for two months. The Beatles legend backed the 28 activists and two journalists who were charged on suspicion of piracy and hooliganism following a protest against oil drilling in the Arctic Ocean. If they are found guilty, they face up to seven years in prison.

In an open letter posted on his...

(3BL Media/Justmeans) Blogs have become the go-to resource for anyone wanting to develop their skills, or try their hand at something new – and they’re rapidly pushing more established sources of ‘expertise’ out of the market and one of them is home cooking!  More people are now cooking at home and finding their recipes online via food blogs. However, how really healthy are these recipes? As the photos of dishes posted on the blogs, may attract potential cooks more than the nutritional value of the meals. Moreover, many food companies sponsor these sites, so the dishes become advertisements for their products, and have the potential to dramatically change the healthiness...

Typhoon Haiyan(3BL Media/Justmeans) - The World Meteorological Organisation has just confirmed that 2013 is the seventh warmest year since records began in 1850. Other extremes this year have included record heat waves in Australia, floods from Sudan to Europe, and Japan had its warmest summer on record. There’s a trend towards extreme weather, such as storms like Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines, which are aggravated by fast-rising sea levels. A Climate Central analysis finds the odds of “century” or worse floods occurring by 2030 are on track to double or...

(3BL Media/Justmeans) - According to the World Bank, more than 2.5 billion people—that’s nearly half the world’s population– live on less than $2 a day. Most live without access to the basic financial services that can help build a better future. For most of these people living on less than $2 a day, saving money can actually be expensive! And the little things we take for granted, such as sending money, can be risky; a single unforeseen incident such as a bad harvest or major illness can push people even deeper into poverty.

It is not that these poor people do not have assets, as they have both savings and skills. The problem is that they don’t have...

(3BL Media/Justmeans) When Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne recently announced that the region might issue “green bonds” to help fund transit projects, she set the stage for Canada’s most populous area to do some trail blazing. Green bonds are similar to other bonds. What makes them different is that the issuer, whether it’s a government body or a private-sector corporation, guarantees the funds. Money raised through the offering is dedicated to a specific project or initiative that’s positive for the environment. The green-bond market is a fledgling market; few people have heard of it, yet it is emerging...

(3BL Media/Justmeans) - When you pull on your favourite t-shirt or top, have you ever wondered what goes into producing it, the impact it has had on the planet? Well, Greenpeace International has, and as a result, it has created a public awareness initiative called the ‘Detox Campaign’ that is now powered by more than half a million people who want toxic-free fashion and clean water. Together they are challenging some of the world's most popular...

(3BL Media/Justmeans) - Consumers are asking big brands serious questions about how they operate, produce, source and what’s their ethical outlook—and companies are taking note. They are embedding CSR into their business so that it genuinely underpins their corporate decisions. However, it requires a tough cultural change, it needs to start at the top. This is exactly what L’Oréal, the world’s biggest cosmetic brand, has done when CEO Jean Paul Agon announced the launch of ‘Sharing Beauty With...
