Launching Comprehensive School-Based Recycling Program with Support from The Coca-Cola Company, Nestlé Waters North America, the PepsiCo Foundation and the Walmart Foundation
FLINT, Mich., February 28, 2017 /3BL Media/– The Coca-Cola Company, Nestlé Waters North America, the PepsiCo Foundation and the Walmart Foundation today announced that they have partnered to fund an integrated recycling education and awareness initiative for the 10,000 school students affected by the Flint water crisis, led by national nonprofit Keep America Beautiful and its local Flint, Michigan, affiliate Keep Genesee County Beautiful (KGCB).
August is National Water Quality Month in the United States, and Yum! Brands is taking time to reflect on the role of restaurants in preserving and promoting water quality.
As stories regarding water supplies in Flint, Michigan and California’s Central Valley appear more frequently, non-profit organizations and government agencies work to address disparities in water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) that affect populations’ public health and food security. Businesses contribute to these efforts, too.
Lessons learned from the Flint water crisis; and as if the city wasn’t hit hard enough by toxic water, now it’s awash in plastic.
The Flint water crisis has uncovered the most ignoble aspects of human decision making and a complete indifference to an already marginalized community.
It also exposed the blatant neglect of existing environmental regulations—namely, the Federal Clean Water Act, the Safe Drinking Water Act, and the Water Quality Act. If the Flint River had been managed according to regulations, perhaps the lead water crisis could have been avoided entirely.
