It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Ernst Ligteringen in London, UK, this week. Ernst joined GRI in 2002, and transitioned it from a project that was started under CERES, in Boston, US, into an independent international organization with a solid independent governance structure and system.
Many companies have sustainability targets and goals that center around in-house projects like energy and greenhouse gas reduction, water reduction and waste reduction. These targets are important, but they beg the question: Is there more that can be done to maximize a company’s total potential impact on the environment?

February 3, 2017 /3BL Media/ - Students from Neighborhood Center Inc.'s Ripley House Charter School gathered for a Super Bowl-themed healthy tailgate party with Aramark chefs from visiting NFL stadiums (Cleveland, Minneapolis, Kansas City and Houston) who were in town to support the game.
The chefs introduced students to new ingredients and showcased healthy alternatives for familiar ingredients in traditional fan-favorite tailgate dishes. The event also featured football-themed athletic activities, such as a football toss, a relay sprint and obstacle course and a beanbag toss.

At the outset of the Year 2016 we were seeing so many (mostly) positive trends converging in a critical mass that spelled out "s-u-c-c-e-s-s-f-u-l" year ahead for sustainability professionals, whether they toiled in the corporate sector, in the capital markets, in NGO offices, in the public sector, and so on. In January 2016 we began to explore these trends one-by-one and in the collective, to develop commentary around the respective themes and developments.
